I have just finished watching this video and at times I was moved to tears. Not only can incredible things be done using social media, but this is an example of tremendous creativity and talent and crate a memorable and beautiful experience.

As an educator for many years, and now a public speaker I have had conflicting thoughts about the use of technology in education and the audiences that they speak to.

As part of the baby boomer generation, I have been brought up to believe that whether there is the teacher  or a speaker speaking at the front of the room, that it is the polite and proper thing to do to listen and not to be distracted by anything else. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you ever wondered why an “epiphany” sometimes happens in a flash of inspiration when you suddenly feel “Yes I get it!”, and then at other times it is like a process or a journey that unfolds a bit at a time?

Well I feel as if I am on a journey toward something different which is unfolding a little bit at a time. In my last blog post I shared some insights that  I discovered when listening to a presentation by Julien Smith. At this point I feel I have traveled a little further in my journey but have not yet reached a destination.

Here is the latest video in the’ Did You Know’ sereies, this time created in collaboration with The Economist.

This one looks at how media convergence has and will affect communication in the world. Technology is bring such change that three of these videos have been released within months of each other

Social media is a relatively new term and refers to different ways of interacting online such as blogs, video, podcasts, messaging, community sites, and RSS. Social media although still in its infancy has impacted communication significantly in the last year and is continuing to grow a rapid rate.

Over the last few weeks I have heard several stories about organizations using Social Media to hire new employees. Increasingly. however, employees are also being hired to be on Social media sites all day building relationships with potential clients, promoting their organizations brand and doing market research.

Sites such as Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter have all been used to advertise and fill positions. Career Fairs actively encourage job search through social media
