Part 2
STEP NO. 4:
Search keywords to find followers in your niche, then follow them
Send a tweet to someone who is not following you that is either sent directly to them or one that is about them, possibly promoting their blog or a blog post that they did. Get you name in front of them and, of course, make sure your smiling face is front and center!
Once they begin to follow you, you can retweet them frequently, again starting the viral affect of being retweeted to many networks.
STEP NO. 5:
Use TweetDeck and Twellow
TweetDeck is an amazing tool for keeping your tweets organized and making sure that things don’t fall through the crack when you are developing a strategy for obtaining followers. I’ll go more into this tool in a later instructional article, but for now you can start by downloading TweetDeck and just get familiar with it. It may appear to be as complicated as figuring out the inner workings of a space ship at first, but once you learn the mechanics of it you’ll love it.
You can build groups, create columns for specific users and also a column for your “mentions” so you can be sure to thank everyone who is retweeting your posts.
Another great tool is Twellow. Again, there will be more instruction on this later, but for now, just go play around and sign up for free.
STEP NO. 6:
Time Yourself
This is pretty self-explanatory, but I think it’s pretty necessary to mention for the sheer fact that you can really waste a ton of time on the social media scene if you are just winging it.
I know myself, I can get on Twitter and Facebook and all of a sudden the sun is going down and the day is nearing an end and I’ve just been chatting it up all day long. That’s fine if that is your objective, but if your objective is to use the social media scene as a business tool, you will have to become efficient and make sure you leave enough time to do the other things that you need to to to make your business productive.
STEP NO. 7:
Have a plan and stick to it
This goes along with Tip No. 6, but it’s bears repeating. Decide which avenue of social medial you want to place the most emphasis on and work that plan until it’s bringing you traffic.
There’s so much information on implementing each avenue of social medial into a business plan, that all you have to to is decide on one of them at a time and you can be successful if you have a plan a stick to it.
For instance, say you’re going to concentrate on Twitter. You plan may be something as simple as tweeting five time a day and retweeing and following everyone who retweets or follows you. You can create a column in TweetDeck for that purpose and be very efficient at sticking to that plan.
Focus on one aspect of social media until you’ve “got it down” and then move on to something else. Scattering yourself is deadly in this arena. (Trust me, I know this one from personal experience!)
